What lorem ipsum is
It is the most widely used placeholder text in design and print: scrambled Latin taken from a passage of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), with words cut and altered so that it means nothing. It shows how a design looks with text without the content getting in the way.
Latin or your own language?
Lorem ipsum has one advantage: nobody starts reading it. But it does not look like real text in your language: word lengths differ, there are no accents and lines break in different places. To test a layout that will carry Spanish, French or Catalan text, use placeholder text in that language: here, nonsense sentences built from common words of each language, with their real length and accents.

Before you publish
- Search the project for “lorem” before going live: forgotten placeholder text is one of the most visible mistakes.
- Do not leave it on indexable pages: search engines read it as low-value content repeated across thousands of sites.
- Also test genuinely long text (three-line titles, very long names): placeholder text tends to be kinder than real content.
